follow the drinking gourd

  Follow the Drinking Gourd, is about slavery in America.
 
I also wrote a series of poems, felt like I was listening to the ancestral spirits sharing their pain.
In my mind the woman suffering, chained to the post, was at her lowest worst day of her life. She had been whipped. Later she escapes and successfully makes it to freedom. The lettering and borders reflect her journey.

 

  One of my ancestral grandfathers worked a station on the Underground Railroad in the early days. Another escaped Russia to earn freedom in the USA, saving all of us thereby. Another grandfather escaped Poland, his brothers and sisters and cousins mostly perished.
