almost 10 s. maple ave
I saw this on one of the houseflipping tv shows and it reminded me so much of our old house. I took a screen shot and hope to do a little memorial quilt. In those days we didn't photograph everything so we have no good pictures of the house itself.

honu quilt
I started this HONU quilt when I was hurt. It was one of the first things I worked on, just couldnt lie there and do nothing. HONU is a magical power beastie, the hawaiian sea turtle. I played with making up creatures and trying some new techniques. I hope to sell it when it is finished to benefit shar pei dog rescue.

happy memorial day
dear ones, happy memorial day. I have listed many heroes on my facebook pages "fran hale and friends" and "the crystal tribe" and my home page. I also remember my first dog loki who gave birth to 9 puppies on memorial day about 1956 or 1955. I named one "memorial" and that day was the first one for mindy and me to be doctor and nurse... love and thank you for your courage and fight for freedom, especially daniel fosher, chana krystal frysdorf, gabriel frysdorf, william c hale, elisha and reuben searl, hal hale, macfarland hale, heroes all.

new and old projects
Hi everybody. Today I hope to finish sending off version 1 of my portfolio to Mindy and the folks at the University of Orange. Later you can call me DR., I hope. I realize this work is ongoing and forever, as long as I can see and talk and think and make, I will be doing. May many more beauties flow through me in my time on Earth.
As soon as the portfolio is done, I hope to finish binding my doggie quilt, " canis lupus, canis familiaris". Watch here for photos. I have a fans quilt made with 1930s fabrics to quilt. I have a top which is a log cabin of wild horses. I am working on another snorkeling underwater quilt, Honu. This is sitting in my living room now, yesterday I added some coral and rocks and seaweed and seahorses. It's a slow one. I want to start an ocean waves quilt with lots of watery fishy fabrics. I have the wonderful autumn leaves 2 quilt to quilt, "instinct". I am making another antiquey one inspired by the 1840s star. I am working on a fancy holiday jacket with mini logs and crazy quilting in lush silks and velvets. I am thinking on what to make for Mindy and her house. I have just finished the petroglyph Wyoming quilts, collaborating with my mom, Fran Hale. I have just finished the African houses quilt, "Under African Skies".
I want to make this become a book, but I need to go back and rephotograph a lot of my work. It's gonna take another year probably.
Love to all, Sally Crystal

minor in genealogy
Just in time for Mother's Day, a truckload of new family history on both my mother and father's side. I now have the names of many of my maternal ancestresses. Thank you for coming. Soon I hope to set up another blog to work that information. Thanks everybody for so much hard work and sharing. I feel incredibly grateful to have this. Love, Sally
museums,lately
Hi guys. Lately I have been to a few good shows. Some: the Newark Museum, summer 2011, the Alexander McQueen, Savage Beauty show at the Metropolitain Museum, summer 2011, and the Jon Paul Gaultier show at the DeYoung Museum in SF, the Ellis Island Museum and Statue of Liberty, and last but not least, the Gertrude Stein exhibit at the MOMA SF. I have seen amazing quilt shows too, at the Pacific International Quilt Show in Santa Clara and our own EBHQ show in its stunning new venue on the Bay.
Feeding the gorilla, indeed.

maggie's legacy
Maggie, our Maggie, we miss you tremendously.
I did this so you could keep on speaking to me, your favorite quote.

carry on
Well, friends, the holidays have come and gone. The good news is no flu,no bronchitis this year.
That is just great. The bad news is, several friends and family very sick or passing away. I try to carry on creatively. I have a quilt in the Alameda County Arts Commission Show,"Revels with Matisse." I have posted it here before.I made it for my great aunt Hope's 100th birthday, and borrowed it back to show. Thanks, Lydia, for lending it back to me. I am working on a few things, finishing my doggie quilt and "Under African Skies", a house quilt. In Africa some places the women paint abstract designs on the front of their houses. Today I hope to make a wooly jacket. I had some silk and wool and I overdyed them faded turquoise. Coming up soon, the Fruit of the Spirit workshops and the East Bay Heritage Quilters show. My back has been bad this week after I caught a patient who was falling. Ouch. I have been rereading Anne Mc-Caffrey and Charlaine Harris. I still want to do some dog fostering but needed to care for the problems Fairy the dog had first. I have been working my way thru some storage clutter, trying to clean up and reclaim my back room.I hope to open my Etsy store soon. Love ,Sara
